University House, ANU, Canberra
7-8 February 2012
A national forum proposing strategies to secure future mathematical and statistical skills for Australia, skills that are critical for Australian innovation and competitiveness.
Professor Celia Hoyles, former mathematics advisor to the British Government, will talk about initiatives employed in the UK that have improved standards, reversed teacher shortages and increased mathematics enrolments.
The forum comes five years on from the An investment in the future forum which discussed the findings of the Australian Academy of Sciences' National Strategic Review of Mathematical Science Research in Australia and provides an opportunity to endorse a coherent action plan to ensure the supply of graduates in the mathematical sciences and quantitative disciplines.
