About 80 mathematicians gathered last week at RMIT University's school of mathematical and geospatial sciences for the annual workshop, tackling a fresh range of problems posed by industries in Australian and New Zealand.

The week-long think tank attracts leading mathematicians from universities and the private sector, along with delegates from Britain, Greece and Malaysia.

MISG2011 was attended by 80 mathematicians and statisticians from Australia and overseas, as well as New Zealand Steel, Transpower and the Environmental Protection Authority.
