Access grid facilitates collaboration

Collaboration between mathematics departments at different institutions made easy with the Access Grid network.

The AG network was used at the February Maths in Industry Study Group ( MISG) at RMIT. The team at RMIT connected with a remote team at the University of Western Australia to combine resources and work on the project. Of particular interest, the AGR sessions used VNC to enable interactive control of digital ink (that is, handwriting and sketching) via interactive whiteboards (unlike standard presentations for lectures and seminars which do not allow interactive control from the remote AGRs).

Honours subjects offered over the AG are becoming increasingly popular. The scheme offers honours students access to a wider variety of subjects than available at their home institution and with approval, subjects may be taken for credit. Currently 24 subjects are on offer.
