Seminar Abstract:

 

In this talk, we discuss important property of losses in GIX/GIY/1/n queues, that is in single-server queues with general batch arrivals, general batch services and finite buffer, where we assume that inter-arrival times satisfy NWUE property (New Worse than Used in Expectation). Let M denote total number of customers that lost during a busy period. We prove that the expectation of M is the same for all n and equal to EX (the expected size of an arrival batch) if and only if

(i)   arrivals are Poisson,

(ii)  size of arrival batch is lattice with span d,

(iii) size of service batch is deterministic random variable taking the value d,

(iv) b EX = ad, where a is expected inter-arrival time, and b is expected service time 

This talk is based on a recent paper [V.Abramov, Oper. Res. Lett. 41 (2013), 150-152].
